The Model of Religious Education

The model of religious education

In the schools and colleges of the Archdiocese of Brisbane, teaching people religion and teaching people to be religious draw upon the Catholic Christian tradition in ways that are mindful of local contexts and the ecumenical and multi-faith realities of contemporary culture.

The image shows a Venn diagram made up of two large overlapping circles outlined in black. The left circle represents “The classroom teaching and learning of religion.” An arrow from this label points to the left circle. Inside the left circle, in orange text, are the words “Teaching people religion.” The right circle represents “The Religious Life and Catholic Christian ethos of the school community.” An arrow from this label points to the right circle. Inside the right circle, in orange text, are the words “Teaching people to be religious in a particular way.” The two circles overlap in the centre, visually indicating a relationship between classroom religious education and the wider religious life of the school, while showing that each has a distinct focus and purpose.
